More than Two Thousand feared Dead in India

Indian officials say at least 2,300 people were killed along the country's southern coast and in the Andaman Islands. India is mobilizing its troops to help the victims of Sunday's disaster -- the hardest hit areas are in the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.

Officials say air force planes will drop food packages, medicine and diesel generators to the effected areas. Witnesses there report the bodies of those carried out to sea are now being washed back to shore. Other victims are being discovered as flood waters begin to recede. Hospitals and morgues are inundated with the dead and injured Indian television reports said the nuclear power plant in Tamil Nadu has been closed as a precaution. Reuters news agency reported that water has entered India's main space center at Sriharikota on the southern coast, but there were no reports of any damage.
