Noble laureate Professor Amartya Sen has stressed the need for proper use and application of laws to protect human rights.
He made the comment when he was speaking at an award ceremony for women journalists. The journalism training is being provided under Salma Sobhan Fellowship Program. Salma Sobhan was a prominent lawyer and wife of prominent economist Professor Rehman Sobhan.
He said, "Only law is not enough, we have to see how effective it is in the society." The protection of human rights also depends on education, social condition and other related issues in a society or a country, he added.
