President Bush has ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff this coming week to honor the victims of last Sunday's devastating earthquake and tsunami.
During his weekly radio address, Mr. Bush said the carnage is on a scale that defies comprehension. He said Americans join the world in feeling enormous sadness at the beginning of the New Year. Mr. Bush said many Americans are directly contributing millions of dollars to relief efforts.
This week, the U.S. government raised its tsunami relief aid to 350 million dollars, and the president says that figure will continue to be revised as officials assess the impact of the tragedy.
