Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's office says he will soon travel to remote islands hard hit by the tsunami disaster. The announcement was made as Mr. Singh returned to New Delhi from a trip to India's tsunami-affected southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh. But no specific dates were given for the trip to the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan President Chandrika Kumaratunga says the unprecedented tragedy gripping the country offers an opportunity for her government and Tamil separatists to revive the peace process. Relief supplies have begun arriving in Sri Lanka, but reports indicate that aid convoys continue to have difficulty reaching some of the hardest hit areas. Friday's torrential rains further hampered efforts.
