Myanmar Mechanism, created by United Nations Human Rights Council, investigates, collects and analyzes evidence of serious international crimes committed inside Myanmar. They prepare files that could facilitate criminal prosecution in national or international court.
Head of Mechanism, Nicholas Koumjian, confirms that they have been collecting information from Rohingya refugees, eyewitnesses etc and verifying them so that they can be safely and effectively used in legal proceedings.
As regards access into places inside Myanmar where genocides allegedly happened, Mechanism officials have been denied access by the authority, he adds.
