India Offers $20 Million Credit to Burma to Revamp Refinery

India has offered a 20-million-dollar line of credit to Burma to upgrade its oil and natural gas refineries. India's Oil Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar made the offer in Rangoon at a meeting with Burma's prime minister, Soe Win, Tuesday. Mr. Aiyar told VOA that Burma has agreed to sell India natural gas by a pipeline through northeastern Bangladesh, and a formal agreement will be signed in Dhaka in March or April this year. The Indian official is in Rangoon for two days of talks with his Burmese and Bangladeshi counterparts on exploring the possibility of a gas pipeline from Burma to India. The talks are to end Thursday. India is looking for more fuel as demands soar with rapid economic growth.
