Unidentified men opened fire at an opposition rally outside the capital, Dhaka, killing at least three people, including a member of parliament. Police say Ahsanullah Master, a lawmaker from the opposition Awami League, suffered multiple bullet wounds in Friday' shooting and died later in a hospital.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.
Local sources said, Ahsanullah Master attended a biennial conference of Awami Sechchha Sebok League (ASL) of Ward No- 10 unit of Tongi Upazila in Gazipur as the chief guest in the morning at MA Mazid High School compound of Noagaon under Tongi police station. When he was returning from the programme, a gang of arms hoodlums numbering about 15 swooped on him and started firing gunshots indiscriminately at about 12.30 pm.
