May Day Observed in Bangladesh - 2004-05-01

Today is International Labor Day, traditionally known as the May Day. The day was observed across Bangladesh with a vow to strengthen workers' rights. Various labor and social-cultural organizations, and political parties observed the day through different programs. It is a public holiday in Bangladesh. The state-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar will broadcast special programs while national dailies brought out special supplements on this occasion. Trade Union Center’s Chairman Nurul Islam, a reporter from Faridpur Mohammed Shajahan and a rickshaw puller Ayub Ali talked to Voice of America about the necessity of worker’s rights.
