Relief Operations Still not Satisfactory : Complains Tornado Affected People - 2004-04-16

Tornado affected people in Netrokona and Mymensingh districts in Bangladesh have complained that enough relief materials have not been sent to those places. Death toll from Wednesday’s tornado has been rising as rescuers recovered more bodies, buried under razed huts, and two critically-injured victims died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.

Meanwhile, thousands of people in at least 29 villages of Mymensingh and Netrakona, ravaged by the tornado, spent another night under open sky virtually without food and drinking water. Prime Minister and the Leader of the opposition both have visited the tornado torn areas.

There has been little relief attempts from the government although the NGOs have been reported doing most of the relief works there.
