More Violent Anti - War Protests in Bangladesh - 2003-04-04

People of Bangladesh demonstrated against the Iraq war today. Friday's demonstration was not organized by any political party or group.Our Dhaka Stringer reports that this was an anti-war demonstration of the people in general. Men and women, both young and old including people who are in their 70's participated. They stoned and broke a BBC Bangla billboard, set fire in two agency offices of ALICO, damaged a Microbus of the DHL office and threw away cans of Cocacola from snack shops.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh Ambassador to UN- Dr.Iftekhar Choudhury met with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan in New York and conveyed the decision of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's government to send humanitarian aid for the people of Iraq. The humanitarian aid includes two million dollar worth of food and medicine to be distributed through the UN or the ICRC.
