Interim Honduran Leader Accepts Deal to End Crisis

The interim Honduran government of Roberto Micheletti has agreed to a deal that could reinstate ousted President Manuel Zelaya and end the country's lengthy political crisis.

The breakthrough came late Thursday, with Mr. Micheletti saying he authorized his negotiating team to sign the agreement that "marks the beginning of the end" of the standoff.

The Honduran Supreme Court must authorize the nation's Congress to vote on whether to allow Mr. Zelaya to return to power and serve the remaining three months of his term.

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Shannon said Friday that implementing the agreement is going to be complicated and will require help from the international community.

Shannon has been part of a U.S. delegation sent to Honduras by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to help mediate the crisis.
