Kean University Human Rights Institute and Bangladesh Study Group, are jointly holding an the international Conference on "Bangladesh 1971: Addressing Claims of War Crimes, Genocide and Crimes Against Humanity".
In an interview with VOA Bangla Service, Arifur Rahman, Assistant Director, Office of the Registrar, Kean University gives a detail description of this upcoming event.
Arifur Rahman, who is also a coordinator of Bangladesh Study Group, says the goal of the conference is to scrutinize the atrocities of 1971 from nonpolitical and unbiased observational standpoint as well as to possibly develop a course on the mass murder of Bangladesh in 1971. He adds that such academic discussions can bring up objective data and information which can eventually be used for the pledged trial of the War Criminals in Bangladesh. He also said that it can help resolve the debate about the method of trial of War Criminals in Bangladesh and possibly respond to questions regarding trials at National and International levels.
Many Scholars are attending, including Shahriar Kabir, Dr. M.A. Hassan, Prof. Ved P. Nanda, Dr. Shelly Feldman, Dr. Roger Clark and the list goes on. Akramul Qader, Ambassador of Bangladesh to the U.S will deliver the welcome address along with Dr. Dawood Farahi, president of Kean University.
