Maleka Begum is the Associate Professor of Women and Gender Studies in the University of Dhaka. She was also the founder secretary of Mahila Parishad, the largest women's lib organization in Bangladesh. She is doing a post doctoral work work on women family law in the Women Study Department at the University of Calcutta.
In this exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, Dr Maleka Begum talks about women's role in the recent election in Bangladesh. She says that although in the new government women have got a few key positions but for parliamentary seats , women's quota for direct election has not been reserved . She thinks women soon will achieve that.
