Suspect in London Blasts Detained in Cairo

Police in Cairo have detained a biochemist suspected of links to last week's London suicide bombings that killed at least 54 people. Egypt's Interior Ministry says police are questioning Magdy Elnashar, a 33-year-old chemistry professor who taught at Leeds University in England.

The ministry said the chemist --who studied in the United States (North Carolina State University) and Britain-- denies any link to the attacks and maintains he returned to Egypt days before the bombings for a vacation. Three of the four suspected bombers lived in Leeds, but Magdy Elnashar's alleged link to them is unclear. Also Friday, British officials said they continue to search for a British-born man of Pakistani descent, who is thought to have links to al-Qaida and may have been a coordinator of the attacks.
