Longtime Voice of America Bangla language broadcaster Ramen Paine has died.
Mr. Paine's daughter says her father died Saturday in a hospital outside Washington from respiratory problems. He was 71 years old.
Mr. Paine first came to VOA in 1961. He left the agency to become a top television news broadcaster in Kokata, India, and returned to VOA in 1981 to become one of the Bangla service's most respected voices.
He is survived by his wife, a son, and two daughters.
