The White House is rejecting criticism that President Bush failed to articulate a clear strategy for defeating the insurgency in Iraq during a speech on Tuesday.
Spokesman Scott McClellan told reporters Wednesday that Mr. Bush outlined a very clear strategy that consists of training Iraqi security forces -- to progressively lessen the need for U.S. troops.
The top Democrat in the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, said after the speech that President Bush must outline a new and specific plan for success in Iraq. She said the American people deserve to know how much more sacrifice will be required of U.S troops.
In his speech, Mr. Bush said the images of violence in Iraq are "horrifying," but he said the sacrifices being made by American troops are worth the cost.
