Amidst allegations of massive rigging in by-election at Narsingdi , according to unofficial result ruling four party alliance candidate , a former student leader Khairul Islam Khokon won the election by bagging 86.005 votes against 60,198 polled by his nearest rival Shahadat Hossain Munna, an independent candidate, in the by-polls boycotted by the main opposition Awami League (AL). The supporters of the ruling alliance candidate allegedly drove the polling agents of other candidates away from a number of polling centers. They chased and assaulted Munna and his supporters at the Narsingdi Government Girls' School center. A procession of the independent candidate also came under the police attack in the afternoon. The by-election to the Narsingdi-1 parliamentary constituency was held today amid tight security. Six candidates who contested in the election are — Khairul Kabir Khokan of the four-party alliance, independent Shahadat Hossain Munna, Shafiqul Islam Shafiq of the Jatiya Party (Eshad), Rokeya Ahmed Lucky, wife of the late Ishaq, Mohammad Siraj Mia and Krishak Mohammad Sadek.
