Report: Tamil Tigers Acquire Illegal Air Capability

India and Sri Lanka leaders have expressed concern over reports that Tamil Tiger separatists h ave built an airstrip and acquired at least two light planes. Indian and Sri Lankan leaders issued a joint statement from New Delhi Friday expressing concern over what they say are Tamil violations of the ceasefire with the Sri Lankan government. European truce monitors said last week they had observed an airstrip, but say the rebels denied them access to confirm if they have planes. Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Foreign Minster Lakshman Kadirgamar met in Washington Friday with U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. A Stare Department spokesman said their talks focused on tsunami relief. The spokesman said Ms. Rice applauded what he called Sri Lanka's commitment to democracy.
