Dozens Feared Drowned in Latest Bangladesh Ferry Accident

Strong currents and gusty winds are hampering the search for dozens of people missing after a ferry with more than 200 passengers capsized Tuesday in central Bangladesh -- the second such accident this week. The body of a man was found floating in the riveron Wednesday, bringing the official death toll to two. Rescuers recovered a child's body on Tuesday.

Distraught relatives are gathering at the river's bank, desperate for news of missing relatives. The boat, traveling from Pabna district, went down in stormy weather as it approached Aricha terminal, west of the capital, Dhaka. News agency reports say at least 50 people were able to swim to safety. Sunday, another overcrowded ferry sank in bad weather in southern Bangladesh, killing at least 60 people. More than 40 people are still missing.
