India Agrees to Attend South Asian Summit

India has agreed to attend a twice-postponed South Asian summit in Bangladesh.

The meeting of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is now scheduled for mid-November in Dhaka.

The summit was delayed in January after the tsunami. It was rescheduled for February, but India withdrew citing the security situation in Bangladesh and the political crisis in Nepal.

SAARC is a seven-nation group supporting economic and social development in South Asia. Member countries include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and the Maldives.
