Mohiuddin Wins Chittagong Election

Office of the Returning Officer announced ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, the Awami League-backed Nagorik Committee candidate, elected for the straight third time as the Mayor of Chittagong.

Incumbent Mohiuddin received 3,50,891 and Mir Nasir got 2,59,410 in Monday's election. Mohiuddin got 91,481 votes over his nearest rival Nasir.

Prime Minister Khaleda Zia congratulated Mohiuddin Chowdhury on his reelection as mayor of Chittagong City Corporation.

Opposition Awami League’s General Secretary M A Jalil said that the Chittagong City election outcome is a reflection of the people's rejection of ruling alliance. BNP’s Abdul Mannan Bhuyian said that he does not agree with Mr. Jalil’s statement and that their popularity did not diminish.
