Chinese PM's India Visit To Focus on Trade, Border Dispute

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao is in India for a four-day visit aimed at helping solve a four-decade-old border dispute and injecting what he calls "fresh vigor" into bilateral relations.

Mr. Wen arrived today (Saturday) in Bangalore, India's high-technology capital. He plans to meet his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh, on Monday.

The two sides are expected to discuss efforts to end the border dispute, which led to a brief war in 1962.

Officials and observers also say the two countries are eager to develop their trade, which reached 13 billion dollars last year. They say China wants to establish a common free trade area between the two countries with a combined population of more than two billion.

Mr. Wen is on the last leg of a week-long, four-nation tour of South Asia.
