Walt Whitman, perhaps the first uniquely American poet was unique in many ways.
In his famous Leaves of Grass he introduces a different world of contrast, conflict and compromise. He not only asserts himself in his Song of Myself but more importantly he sings the songs of humanity and nature and weaves a fine texture of relationship between the creation and the creator.
He is, to a great extent similar to a latter Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
