Indian FM to Meet with Burmese Leaders

India's foreign minister has arrived in Burma for meetings with Burmese leaders and the Indian community in Mandalay.

Natwar Singh arrived in Rangoon Thursday, saying he looks forward to meetings with Burma's head of state Lieutenant General Than Shwe, Prime Minister Lieutenant General Soe Win, and Foreign Minister U Nyan Win. The leaders are expected to discuss joint transportation and energy projects, including an oil exploration deal between India and Burma on which Burma has expressed contradictory opinions. Mr. Singh is also scheduled to travel to the central Burmese city of Mandalay on Sunday to meet with the area's Indian population.
