River linking to be raised at JRC meet:says Bangladeshi Water Minister

Water Resources Minister Major (Retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed Bir Bikram, said on Sunday that Bangladesh will raise the proposed Indian Inter-river Linking project issue in the next 36 Joint River Commission (JRC) meeting aimed at solving the problems through bilateral discussion. The Minister will send a letter to his Indian counterpart soon so that the next 36 JRC meeting could be held in Dhaka by May-June this year he said while speaking at a press briefing at his ministry in Dhaka.

Replying to a question, Major Hafiz said it would be a total violation of the charter of 35 JRC meeting if India unilaterally withdraws water from common rivers by constructing Tipaimugh barrage on river Barak.
