Bangladesh Govt Accused of Patronising Militants in the name of Islam

Politicians and civil society members alleged Friday that Bangladesh was fast becoming a safe haven for Islamists as the BNP-led four-party alliance government continued to patronise militancy in the name of Islam.
While speaking at a roundtable on militant activities in the name of Islam, organised by the Workers Party of Bangladesh at the National Press Club, they concluded that it would be impossible to curb such an Islamist uprising as long as the alliance government stayed in power.
Workers Party politburo member Fazle Hossain Badsha presented a keynote paper at the roundtable, chaired and moderated by the party president, Rashed Khan Menon. Awami League's General Secretary , Abdul Jalil alleged the Jamaat with the help of the BNP was expanding its militant network, and giving threats to and launching attacks on the pro-liberation forces.
