Two Suicide Bombings in Iraq Kill 27

Iraqi authorities say two suicide attacks carried out by al-Qaida-linked militants killed 27 people Monday.

Both attacks were aimed at Iraqi police. In Mosul, a bomber detonated his explosives near a group of police at a hospital compound, killing himself and 11 people. Separately, a car bombing near a police headquarters in Baquba killed 15 people.

Meanwhile, Egyptian authorities say four Egyptian engineers abducted in Baghdad Sunday are now free. Few details of their release were available, but Egyptian officials say U.S. troops were involved in freeing them.

And, the purported kidnappers of an Italian journalist in Iraq posted an internet statement saying she will soon be released.

In other developments, election officials in Mosul say gunmen prevented at least 15,000 voters from casting ballots recently for Iraq's transitional National Assembly.
