Rocca ,EU Urge Government for Thorough Investigation of attacks on Opposition Rallies

The US assistant secretary of state for South Asian Affairs, Christina Rocca, has said the US government is considering Bangladesh’s request for FBI assistance but asked for clear terms of reference to ensure full access to all evidence and witnesses by FBI consultants.
Rocca called the foreign minister, M Morshed Khan, over telephone from Washington Sunday and explained the US government’s position regarding Bangladesh’s request for FBI assistance, a spokesman for the US mission in Dhaka told the news agency.
The spokesman said Rocca expressed ‘her outrage at the January 27 attack on an Awami League rally that led to the death of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria and others.’
She urged the Bangladesh government to conduct a thorough investigation in order to identify, arrest, and prosecute those responsible for this attack.
Eight top diplomats of European countries stationed in Dhaka on Sunday expressed their deep concern over the killing of Shah AMS Kibria and said the apparent failure to investigate similar previous attacks had led to a climate of impunity.
The EU envoys called on the foreign minister, M Morshed Khan, on Sunday afternoon and urged the government to ‘give a clear signal of its (government’s) commitment that acts of political terrorism are not acceptable’.
They called upon the government to take urgent measures to build up confidence with opposition parties and civil society.
