Insurgents launched attacks across Iraq Wednesday as the U.S. military announced it had detained six suspects in connection with last week's assassination of Baghdad's provincial governor, Ali al-Haidari. U.S. troops arrested the suspects Tuesday in Baghdad after being tipped off by residents. Further north, in Mosul, a car bomb killed two Iraqi National Guards and wounded two others. And in Baquba, gunmen killed a local official. Despite the violence, interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi and President Bush have said January 30th's national assembly election must go ahead as scheduled. But the United States and Iraq acknowledge the election will not be perfect. Meanwhile, the United States confirmed Wednesday that it has ended the search for biological, chemical and nuclear weapons in Iraq. Officials say intelligence about alleged weapons in Iraq was wrong.
