With more than five billion dollars pledged to help victims of last month's devastating tsunami, some international aid organizations have begun asking donors to support their general emergency relief operations instead. The American Red Cross on Friday said it has raised more than 150-million dollars since the December 26th earthquake. It says it will cap donations for relief efforts in southern Asia at 400-million dollars. Doctors Without Borders says it has received enough contributions for its response to the emergency, and is steering donations to its ongoing effort in Sudan and more than 70 other countries. Officials say many aid groups want to guarantee the money is well spent, and to ensure that adequate funds are available to address other pressing humanitarian needs throughout the world.
