Topic: Many people may Die Unless Rohingyas get vaccinated in the camp Says Khaing Suu
Translation summary: Maung Khing Suu, a Rohingya youth temporary resident of Balukhali Camp 8E said to VOA Rohingya Lifeline Program that as far as I heard and knew many Rohingya died due to COV-19 pandemic. Also, the Rohingyas who are COVID-19 positives along with symptoms and who have been admitted at isolation centers of different NGO/Agencies are getting recovered from COVID-19 pandemic.
21-years old Khing Suu said again that World Health Organization-WHO did survey and asked Rohingyas to vaccinate. And the NGO/agencies have been doing awareness sessions of COVID-19 pandemic to the Rohingya as well. But I can’t see any steps, initiatives that the WHO and NGO/agencies are taking to vaccinate the Rohingya with COVID-19 vaccine although the people of the different countries as well as Bangladeshis are vaccinating against the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end, Khing Suu said that due to crowded living condition in the Cox’s Bazar camp, it’s impossible to maintain the rules and regulation of COVID-19 pandemic though people try to maintain it . That’s why vaccinating the Rohingyas is needed urgently.

Topic: Two people died, and several others were injured in a lightning strike at Kutupalong Rohingya camp.
Translation summary: Two people were reported dead, and several others were injured in a lightning strike in a shelter at Kutupalong Rohingya camp in the morning at around 6am on 10th May 2021. The dead were 65 years old Abul Kalam and his 7 years old daughter Umme Habiba. Other members of that shelter were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The son in law of deceased Abul Kalam who was at the shelter confirmed VOA on this. He said,” We all slept after praying fazar prayer and after a while started little rain with lightening that hits our shelter and two of the family members died right away. Others were injured of lightening sparks. This incident is totally unpredictable and there are very few earthing towers in the camp which blocks the lightning storms in this situation. Police investigated the situation and completed all the formalities”.
Another Rohingya youth from camp 6 who is about 25 years old got injured due to lightening. A Rohingya Mohammad Shafiq from camp 3 said,” There are very few earthing towers in the camps. Each camp consists of many hills. But there are only one or two earthing tower which are not sufficient to block those lightening that causes this incident frequently. We urge authorities to put proper earthing tower around the camp so that people can be safe”.
