A Rohingya youth, Mohammed Ayas temporary residents Balukhali camp-8W said to VOA Rohingya Lifeline Program that fire broke out at 3:00 PM from main Block-D, Sub-Block-I (18) of Camp-8W, Balukhali # 1. Ayas says, My two relatives, parents-in-law of my sister were burnt to death and many Rohingya were injured in front me. Also, my shelter is burnt to ashes and I haven’t found my family member and my parents yet.
Another a Rohingya youth, Ali Ahammed said that although fires service come from Ukhia on time, firemen did not bring water pipes and that’s why it could not work to control spreading fire. But some Rohingya volunteer of BRAC called Cyclone Preparedness Program-CPP, Site Management Rohingya Volunteer, Rohingya Volunteers of Danish Refugee Council and others attempted to control fire, but they also failed to control spreading fire as they had insufficient fire controlling materials and less peoples. So, the fire swept through the camp more than four hours from 3:00 PM. Also, about 8 people were burnt to death , a male , a female, four children and two others whose gender could not be recognized.
Besides, a Rohingya namely Kyaw Min, temporary resident of Balukhali camp # 9 said that my shelter is burnt to ashes and my family members were missing. Somehow, I got their info as they took shelter in Jamtoli Camp #15. Kyaw Min also, said that about 20,00 shelters of camp-8W and camp #9 were burnt and about 80,000 people became lost their shelters in these two camps. Also, 500 shops got gutted at Bolibazar Market Moreover, money, gold ornament and documents belonging to 90% Rohingya including UN provided document in the camp have burnt down too. Like these many Mosques, Madras of the Rohingya as well as learning centers and other facilities of different NGO/ Agency were burnt to ashes as well.
So, the Rohingya whose shelters are burnt to ashes need urgent treatment facilities, food, clothings and shelters as well.
