The High Court on Wednesday asked the Election Commission to suspend all activities related to the by-election to the Dhaka-10 constituency of Jatiya Sangsad until settlement of a legal row over allocation of election symbol for Bikalpadhara candidate Abdul Mannan. A High Court Division bench of Justice MA Matin and Justice Tarik-ul-Hakim passed the order on a writ petition, filed by the former BNP lawmaker after he failed to get kula (winnowing fan) as election symbol. The judges also stayed electioneering for the by-election, scheduled for June 6, and fixed June 12 for hearing of the petition.
