Many people were injured in police firing and baton charge during Sunday’s countrywide hartal called by the Awami League in protest against the slaying of Ahsanullah Master MP in Tongi on Friday. The dawn-to-dusk shutdown saw life come to a halt more severely than observed at most recent hartals. Across the country, businesses remained largely closed, transport services suspended, and mills and factories not in production.
