Following the retraction of the reuters story on home minister's alleged statement that Al Qaida could be behind the bomb blast in Mymensingh , one of the reporters of the Reuters in Bangladesh has been arrested. Mr Enamul Huq Chowdhury , who also has been working with BSS, a Bangladeshi news agency, has been taken into three days' police remand.
Immediately after the bomb blast on December 7 ,in which 18 people are reported dead , the reuters reported that the Home Minister of Bangladesh had commented that Al Qaida could be behind the blast. The minister denied having said this while the reuters stood by its story until yesterday when it retracted its five stories wherever it had referred to the Home Minister's alleged statement .
In the meantime the Minister's Attorney has served a notice on the Reuters to give them the name of all persons involved in the reporting or else the reuters will face a defamation suit worth one hundred million taka.
