Lt Col Syed Abdul Hai , was one of those brilliant Bengali medical officers who were brutally killed by the Pakistani Army and their agents in Bangladesh . When he took the seventh field ambulance to the cyclone affected areas in 1970, he witnessed for himself how Bengalis were ignored even on those days of natural disaster. Later on , he got in touch with the political leaders and imbibed with a sense of pride for Bangladesh , determined to see the nation n as a free one, he sought to know his duties.
All these, presumably , has angered , his Pakistani bosses and eventually he was killed. But this short story is really the result of a long struggle and long dream that he cherished.
In this exclusive interview with martyred Lt Col Syed Abdul Hai’s son ,Ashfaq Hai we bring out the causes and the consequences of his murder. Ashfaq, was merely a 14 year old boy in 1971 and in this interview he recalls his vivid memory of blood and tears in those days.
