Muhiuddin Khan Alamgir, a member of the Awami League Presidium in Bangladesh and a former minister of state for Planning says that torturing political leaders has become very prevalent in recent days in Bangladesh.
In an exclusive interview with VOA Bangla Service, he said that recent harassment of Bidisha Ershad, the second wife of General Ershad is extra judicial. In this context he also recalled his own detention. Dr Alamgir, an economist himself, was critical of the new budget and said that it would fail to meet the goals of economic development and poverty alleviation.
