Bangladesh’s finance minister M Saifur Rahman in his post budget press conference in Dhaka has brushed aside criticisms by opposition . He claimed said that all pro-people budgets are essentially pro-election budgets too. He also dismissed the claim that it was an ambitious budget. He said that the budget deficit has reduced by 1.5% since the previous regime. He said the proposed budget is not ambitious in terms of earmarking allocation for annual development programme considering the country’s population and development needs. The objectives of the budget are to enable enhanced production of the agriculture sector, empowerment of women, bolstering of the social safety net and distribution of equitable wealth, said Saifur.
