Attorney General of Bangladesh Hassan Arif has resigned on health grounds. He met Prime Minister Khaleda Zia on Friday and expressed his desire for the resignation. However, informed sources say that the Attorney General resigned because of difference of opinion with the present coalition government over the next election of the Bar Council and other matters. Hassan Arif was appointed Attorney General after the present government came into power in October 2001.
