Bangladesh has criticized the US State Department human rights report that said the country’s human rights record has deteriorated.
Law Minister Barrister Maudud Ahmed said the report failed to reflect upon the government's effort to strengthen the human rights of Bangladeshis. ''It is not objective only reflecting the negative aspects. The report should incorporate the government achievements as well,'' the Minister said.
The Human Rights report-2004 released in Washington on Monday said the poor human rights record worsened in Bangladesh and the government continued to commit numerous abuses.
It said security forces committed a number of extra-judicial killings while newly-formed elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) committed human rights abuses and were rarely disciplined.
