Jatiya Sangsad goes into its winter session on Monday, and is likely to see heated debates on current issues including the brutal killing of former finance minister, Shah AMS Kibria.
The speaker and leaders of the treasury bench and the opposition will be at loggerheads on Monday afternoon at the Business Advisory Committee meeting on the issue of the first sitting of this session.‘We (AL) want the first sitting to be adjourned immediately after adoption of an obituary motion to pay tribute to Shah AMS Kibria, an ex-lawmaker, in accordance with the custom of the parliament, ’ deputy leader of the opposition in the Sangsad, Abdul Hamid. ‘We also demand deferment of the president’s address in the parliament to the second day of the session.’
However, Article 73(2) of the constitution says that the president will address parliament at the commencement of the first session after a general election of members of parliament, and at the commencement of the first session of each year.
